More than 3 billion people do not have access to safe toilets. And an estimated 80% of faecal sludge gets dumped untreated into our ocean and rivers every year. Open sewers emit the greenhouse gases methane and nitrous oxide into the atmosphere.

Loowatt seeks to address these problems through their chemical-free toilets with waterless flush technology and 360-degree waste processing that can be rolled out in areas lacking sewage systems. These toilets, made largely from recycled and recaptured materials, form part of a closed-loop system that includes waste collection and treatment to produce biogas and organic liquid fertiliser. Loowatt’s technology could have a huge impact on waterways and the ocean health, as well as human health and dignity.
